Do the Amendments destroy the Constitution?
It is now twenty-two years since the nation's Constitutional Bicentennial when then Chief Justice Warren Burger issued a challenge to America’s schools and teachers to raise the level of our nation’s Constitutional literacy.
The colorized Amended Constitution in this package is the product of fifteen years of experience teaching American government to college and adult learners in a college-level course, and more recently, to junior high school students with surprisingly similar effectiveness.
This document enables visualization of the amendments to our nation's seminal governing document in the context where they would have been in the 1787 original, now two-hundred-and-twenty-two years old. It allows the consequences of each change to be viewed and discussed in the context in which it is now interpreted by our nation's courts.
This approach has been developed as a response to constitutional illiteracy and a challenge to change how we teach the basics of our "more perfect union." I hope you will enjoy it on its own merits.
We will guarantee you that this document will provoke a spirited and meaningful discussion on the significance of the Amendments and the meaning of each of the changes for our Constitution and its meaning for America today!
